One of the most common questions from students visiting our school in Gualliguaica is whether you need extraordinary physical strength or months of practice to master the wing. The short answer is no. To learn kitesurfing safely, the defining factor is not strength, but technique, consistency, and the right wind conditions.
The hours required to learn kitesurfing
On average, a beginner student needs between 7 and 9 hours of guided instruction to master the famous Water Start (getting up on the board) and complete short, autonomous rides. While the exact time to learn kitesurfing depends on individual skills, our methodology divides your progress into four clear stages:
- Hours 0 to 3: Land-based kite control, learning safety release systems, and understanding the wind window geometry.
- Hours 3 to 8: Entering the freshwater to master power control (Body Dragging) and learning board recovery drills.
- Hours 7 to 9: Placing the Twin-Tip board on your feet, balancing your weight, and making your first runs across the lake.
- Hours 9 to 15: Riding completely independent. You can ride upwind and no longer need close supervision. This is the final stage of the course and the one that varies the most in duration.
